Have you ever seen someone handle a situation so courageously you just sit back in awe? Sit there and say wow, that guy is a leader. That guy always seems to have his crap in a neat pile. The alpha of the pack. He might not be the biggest or the strongest but he has morals and leadership principles that make him the best. Law Enforcement sometimes brings out the best in men. The 1987 Riot of Atlanta state penitentiary shows these principles. The first characteristic is represented by Weldon Kennedy. Kennedy is the FBI SAC in Atlanta and is the on-scene commander for the federal government. Weldon was a favorite in the eyes of the HQ. He was a natural leader and everyone flocked to him in a moments notice. The team came first in order to complete a mission. The people he worked with loved him. In the field he could make decisions that were fast and reliable. His team would stick with him because they were always up to date. This is a very good characteristic to have. He was a people person and knew how to go about things. He could ensure assigned tasks were understood, supervised, and accomplished while being a good friend at the same time. They were the backbone to calming down the savages going crazy outside. The rioters were very hard to work with due to the fact that they didn’t have one “official” leader. They were just a bunch of guys doing stupid stuff. Several people claimed to be leader which made it very hard for lead negotiator Dee Rosario. They eventually started gaining traction when they found a list of the “Highest ranking” inmates. This started providing information that they constantly were relaying back to HQ. This communication was vital due to the fact that they were receiving vital intel right from the source. The constant update of information was most likely the reason the riot was soothed over.
