The University of West Florida mascot should be a smart-minded figure that represents the college. The mascot should be a lion because it is courageous, strong, and intelligent. The students and staff at the University of West Florida are very protective of their academic heritage. For instance, the mascot represents the fighting spirit of The University of West Florida. The University of West Florida students have a lot of the characteristics of a lion: brave, protective, and determined. The lion is a competitive animal, and the competitiveness is what I see in the sportsmanship of the University of West Florida athletes. All of these characteristics show why our mascot should be a lion.

The University of West Florida’s mascot is outdated and is overdue because of the many changes within the campus.
