The University of West Florida mascot should be a smart-minded figure that represents the college. The mascot should be a lion because it is courageous, strong, and intelligent. The students and staff at the University of West Florida are very protective of their academic heritage. For instance, the mascot represents the fighting spirit of The University of West Florida. The University of West Florida students have a lot of the characteristics of a lion: brave, protective, and determined. The lion is a competitive animal, and the competitiveness is what I see in the sportsmanship of the University of West Florida athletes. All of these characteristics show why our mascot should be a lion.

Analysis & Support

The University of West Florida’s mascot is outdated and is overdue because of the many changes within the campus. The mascot could be a figure of the new “Sea Change” slogan at the University of West Florida. The lion, a strong and powerful animal, is always the leader of the pack. A lion is fast and furious; indeed, they can run up to 50 mph when chasing prey. Similarly, the athletes at the University of West Florida are fast, and the university is growing fast. In addition, lions are known for their courage. In the wild, lions illustrate their intelligence by maintaining interspecies allies in response to a complex social code. Students at the University of West Florida are intelligent because the students scored third in the nation on the Certified Public Accountant exam.
