According to Brian Stillwell, (2013) Business leaders realize technology can speed time-to-market. They’ve seen it transform customer service. They sense opportunity in its new and improved business. And they want in. West Jet Airlines realizing that they were lugging behind in the IT world saw the need to hire an experience CIO to aligned its IT and Business Strategy and made a decision to hire Cheryl Smith. Munro, M., & Khan, S. (2013). Smith immediately saw significant opportunities in the IT governance model at WestJet. She helped managers at WestJet better understand the role of information technology in corporate strategy by first recreating the IT organization, aligned IT with corporate goals and overhaul IT planning and budgeting, also making IT more responsive to the business needs. I believe the best way that WestJet’s experience can influence the way my organization aligns its IT and Business Strategies is to have an experienced IT professional like Smith to head the IT department, one who believe in helping the organization reach its goals, through technology.
