In the pamphlet “The Teen Brain” from the National Institute of Mental Health, it describes how the teen brain is very intrusive, acts of risky behaviors, responds to its environment, responds to stress differently, and is quite impulsive just like the two teens Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet put themselves through many risky situations and act on impulsive behaviors because they’re going through adolescence, which is presented in the text “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”. Romeo and Juliet express the reaction to an environment and act on intrusive behaviors throughout their love story, knowing they’re both risking each other’s families. In (IV.III.74-112) Romeo sees Juliet in her tomb and rebelliously decides he cannot live without her and takes poison to end his life. Romeo at the end of his speech says “Here’s to my love! Drinks. O true apothecary, O true apothecary! Thy drugs are quick to take. Thus, with a kiss, I die. Falls. ]”, proclaiming his hard felt love to Juliet after she had “passed”, giving the example of responding to his environment and doing without thinking. In (II.). II. 25-136) Juliet shows her compassion and curiosity towards her love for Romeo, Juliet goes on to say “O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I’ll no longer be a Capulet,” she explained deeply how she wished their families didn’t have so many differences and hates for each other. Juliet acts on her intrusive mind and speaks aloud on her balcony, knowing many other people within her home can possibly hear her.
