Wise people will say, “you're free to do whatever you want, but you should always take responsibility of the consequences of your choices in life.” In the novel Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, the reader understands that every choice has a consequence, not just on you, but others too. Paul Fisher, the main character, lives with his evil brother Erik, who has been torturing Paul for as long as he has lived. Erik makes some bad choices that roughly impact Paul’s life. Through Erik's choices and consequences, Paul is given less attention, he loses friends, grows stronger, and becomes able to stand up for himself and stop spectating. To begin with, Erik decides to play football, Dad’s favorite sport. Since Dad loves football, and Erik plays football, all eyes are on him. Erik becomes the main attraction, and Paul is left on the side all alone. Paul started to get upset that he wasn’t getting much attention at all, so he asked his dad, “‘What position did I play when I did get into a game?’” His dad responded, “‘How am I supposed to know that?’” Since Erik decided to play his dad’s dream sport, he gets loads of attention from his parents, and everyone else. After Erik hit Tino, Luis became very upset with Erik, and he was going to get Erik back at football practice. Instead Luis got hit really hard in the head, causing him to unexpectedly die. When Luis was at the football practice, “Arthur reached Luis, turned, and whipped the blackjack around with a loud whack against the side of Luis’s head.” As Luis gets hit and dies, Paul gets very irritated with Erik. His temper heats up and Paul is almost ready to scream the truth. Luis was a good friend to Paul, and they had many bonds between them,seeing him go caused Paul pain, but it only made him stronger.
