Europe was totally devastated after 1945. World War II had ended and it left it’s mark. Much of Europe was crumbled and left in ruins. The continent was practically destroyed. A great amount of debt was owed, especially to the United States. The inner countries just could not come up with the load to reconstruct. The continent honestly could not support itself. People were out of work, in need, and had little food. The future seemed dim. Things increasingly became worse. The threat of the Soviets closing in along the push for communism began to take hold and had the broken European countries were in fear; help was desperately needed.
