Many leaders are able to get their crew out of difficults circumstances by their quick and clever thinking. They use good judgement to determine what they need to do to get out of a problem. In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus gets himself and his crew home while maneuvering through many obstacles along the way. Even though some of the crew was affected, he was able to get most of his crew around the obstacles they faced. Odysseus being very shrewd has the most significant impact on the narrative because this allowed him to manipulate his way out of tough situations with minimal damage.
Actor Christopher Reeve once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” That quote is especially true when one thinks about Edmond Dantes from The Count of Monte Cristo, Santiago from The Alchemist, and Odysseus from The Odyssey. Edmond, Santiago, and Odysseus each sustained their share of challenges and temptations, and were able to fight through them to attain their dreams and goals. Santiago, from the book The Alchemist, encountered many problems on the journey to achieve his dream of going to the pyramids. His most important challenge was harnessing the wind, that being the only way he and the alchemist could escape tribesmen in the desert.
In The Odyssey, Odysseus faced many adversities that caused him to have to stand up and take charge of the men who were sent on this epic adventure after the Trojan War. The Trojan War was a ten years war that was caused because of the abduction of Helen by Paris. Helen was a very beautiful woman whom every man desired to have. Thus, Paris kidnapped her and took her away to Troy. In order to win this forever lasting war Odysseus came up with the idea of building the Trojan Horse.
Odysseus,what comes to mind when you hear that name? I think courage, and bravery. Odysseus states in the book ,“A man who has been through bitter experiences and travelled far enjoys even his sufferings after a time” .This quotes fits really well with him because he went through alot and even when he was in those hard times they are good memerios now. In The Odyssey, by Homer, Odysseus traveled far and wide in search of his way home. He wanted to go home back to his wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus. In total, Odysseus spends almost twenty years trying to find his way home back to his family and his throne. He has gone through many misfortunes and he almost runs out of time to keep his wife. If he did not make it back and prove to everyone that he is truly Odysseus, his wife might have married another man.

But the gods were not happy with Odysseus, due to his arrogant ways and his lack of faith in the gods. Because of this, his journey home would become a 20 year one.
