Americans are known around the world for their American spirit, notorious for the unsaid motto of, ‘My country, right or wrong’. However, America was not the only country known for its nationalistic ideals. If one were to take a trip back in time, they would find ancient Romans giving America a run for their money. While ancient Rome did not have a Fourth of July, one could argue that Americans are the modern-day ancient Romans in terms of patriotism. Modern Americans are quite similar to the ancient Romans in their love for their country. In terms of patriotism, modern Americans are quite similar to ancient Romans. This can be demonstrated by the triumphs held after Roman victories. After battles in which Rome won, the senate would host giant parades called triumphs in honor of the military commander who led the legions to victory. Triumphs are similar to the American holiday the Fourth of July. Both last one day, and celebrate war victories.
