What Are The Similarities Between Uber Deliveroo And Taskrabbit

Uber, Deliveroo and TaskRabbit are all modern services connected to the millennials. On one side they are services which makes peoples everyday life easier. On the other hand they are services that you could say penalizes its workers. One common denominator for the mentioned companies is that they all fall under the category of a gig economy. It is an economy that has its focus on short-term workers and freelance work.
I have read the article 'How the gig economy is chewing up and spitting out millennials' (The Guardian [web edition], 17 October 2017) and will discuss some of the issues with gig economy.

And as the companies want to grow, this implies that they are hiring many people and offering jobs to more or less anyone that fulfils the demands. About fifty per cent of the workers in the UK are under the age of 35 and they are anywhere preferably being called contractors in front of employers (The guardian, 2017).

In a gig economy you are offered varying types of positions and you can make yourself a full time job. You can also chose to just go through a few gigs if you’re not interested or able to work full day, every day (Glassdoor, 2017). These kinds of variations attracts many people which can favour both parts (The guardian, 2017).

Even though there are eminent advantages and an employment is something I believe most people associate to something positive, there are some factors which speaks against it. In a gig economy there are many issues people might forget. The main problem is the wages, rights and other occupational benefits such as pensions, sick pay and parental leave (Worksmart, 2017).
