There are about 60 million kids that play sports in the United States! Youth sports have been a part of many childhoods in many different ways for a long time. There are so many different kinds of sports to play, so there is always a sport for everyone to participate in. Also, youth sports teach kids helpful skills that they can use later in their lives. But, some think that some of these competitive sports are not good for children. Many believe that parents are ruining their children’s experience by being too intense, and this has caused many kids over the age of 12 to quit their favorite sports. When being part of a team, communication is a key factor in success. That is why experts agree, saying, “Sports demand strong communication and collaboration with other teammates, officials and coaches.” (Courier-Journal, 2018). Youth sports teach kids the skill of communication by having them learn to communicate with others around them. According to Bowen (2018), “Each sport teaches kids how to be part of a group and get along with other players and personalities. That's an important skill to learn no matter what you do in life.” He says this because he states how any sport includes communication and it is an important skill to have. When kids participate in sports, it teaches them how to communicate effectively with others they are trying to work with. In sports, you have to work in a group to try to achieve a common goal. To get there, you have to communicate with other people. Without communication, the team would fall apart and not be able to succeed. Communication is a way to get along with others and that is important because someone will be more successful in life if they communicate effectively and get along with others.
