The American Revolution was also known as the U.S. War of Independence. Between 1763 and 1775, the British attempted to take control over the colonies. Since they had become accustomed to their mother country's advantages, Britain trying to prevent the colonists from flourishing angered them. Although the colonists were determined to separate from Britain, the American Revolution was mainly caused by British mistakes including acts, wars, and separation. First, There were several acts that caused change leading up to the American Revolution. One of the acts is the Sugar Act (1764), it was a tax by the British to pay for the Seven Years Wars in America. It taxed sugar and decreased taxes on molasses in British colonies, America, and the West Indies. Another act was the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act (1765), was basically when Britain placed stamps on almost everything including: letters, documents, and playing cards. This caused the colonists to pay taxes to the British. There was a group of colonists who were angered by this act. They called themselves the Sons of Liberty (1765). The Sons of Liberty was led by Samuel Adams. The Sons of Liberty refused to pay the tax and threatened the men who were assigned to collect the taxes. The Townshend Act was next. …show more content…
One of the main wars was the Seven Years War (1754-63). This war lasted for 9 years which is very odd considering the name of the war. This war was also called the French and Indian War, but the French and Indians were fighting on the same side. The war provided Great Britain enormous territorial gains in North America. France lost Canada and gave Louisiana to Spain. Britain got Spanish Florida and Upper Canada. Another war was the Boston Massacre (1770). The Boston Massacre was when British soldiers shot five colonists in the streets of Boston. It was a peaceful rally till it took a turn and became not so
