The book Daniel’s Story describes events that happened during the Holocaust through a fictional character, Daniel. The way the Nazis treated the Jewish people was awful and cruel. Many of these actions made me sick to my stomach, knowing that this actually happened. From his uncle’s ashes being sent in the mail, people beating up the Jews, a SS officer shooting a young boy, and the living conditions of the Jews in the ghetto, these are some of the events that were horrifying.
Discrimination against Jews “..when we were told we couldn't live in our house we had to move to a different part of Cracow, where the soldiers built a big wall and my mother and father and my brother and I all had to live in one room.” [Ch.12 p.128] Here, Shmuel recounts what happened to his family and him before moving to Auschwitz into a concentration camp. He stated that they were “told” they were unable to love in their home anymore but in one room instead; we are able to learn that they are not free and it's the beginning of their entrapment. “The train was horrible.. After World War One Germany was suffering badly, because of this Hitler took power over Germany. Germans listened to him because he was their last resort, they had nowhere else to turn. Any longer and they would be suffering far worse. The Holocaust happen because there was violence outbreaks, recklessness, and families were being destroyed. This book took place during World War II Poland. In the book it does not really mention any dates that we could tie in with this time. There are several mentions however of signs of war for instance, “There were air raid sirens at night but for a few weeks nothing happened.”(pg. 26) This was before they were moved to the ghettos of Warsaw.
Race is seen throughout this entire novel. The Holocaust is a sensitive and horrifying time in history for the Jewish community. It recognizes weakness, loss, and death. Starting of the novel, the setting seems relaxing and hopeful. The narrator mentions the German Nazi, but it does not interfere with the story.
In writing the book “The Good Ole Days: The Holocaust as Seen by its Perpetrators and Bystanders”, Ernst Klee successfully illustrates, historically, that the citizens of Nazi Germany played many roles, had similar motives for participating, and mostly had an awareness of the cruelty and barbarity of their actions during the Shoah. Ernst Klee, through first-hand accounts in diaries, photographs, letters and reports, successfully exposes the events of the holocaust and the actions of the persons involved. In accordance with the title, Klee highlights that there were many roles that individuals played during the Shoah including perpetrators which can be subdivided into those who gave orders and those who followed them, bystanders, and the very few who stood against the regime. Klee includes accounts and diary entries from individuals such as Otto Ohlendorf who was head of Einsatzgruppe D, police officials from many sections including one from
Holocaust survivors The survivors of the holocaust never gave up even though they were tortured and traumatized. The survivors personalities changed because they were traumatized, they survived by using tricks and lying. When they left the camps a lot of them had post-traumatic stress syndrome which is A disorder characterized by failure to recover after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event. Survivors of the Holocaust After the war against the Nazis, there were very few survivors left. For the survivors returning to life to when it was before the war was basically impossible. They tried returning home but that was dangerous also, after the war, anti-Jewish riots broke out in a lot of polish cites. Although the survivors were able to build new homes in their adopted countries. The Jewish communities had no longer existed in much part of Europe anymore.

The Holocaust was an execution of 8 million Europeans, and “ 6 million of the Europeans killed were Jewish women, children, and men that were brutally murdered” (Strahinich 7). It “was a catastrophe in our modern history” (Strahinich 7) now staining our history pages with hundreds of innocent people’s blood, forever lost in the grounds of the Holocaust. It took “place in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Latvia, and Czechoslovakia” (Altman 9) is some of the places where hundreds died. Thanks to “Adolf Hitler” (Strahinich 8) and “the Nazis government” (Strahinich 10), they “plunged most of Europe” (Allen 7) into turmoil, taking lives that did not need to go.
The Jewish Holocaust is a very well known tragedy around the world. During the Jewish Holocaust many lives were lost and many people began to lose hope. This was a very horrible tragedy that affected many and continue to affect many to this day. The amount of lives that were lost or taken during the Holocaust was enormous. It is considered to be a masquer and will forever help to shape the world, whether it be good or bad.

The Holocaust was a horrific tragedy which started in January of 1933 and ended in May of 1945, the Holocaust was the mass murder of millions of people. The word was derived from the Greek word that meant Sacrifice to the Gods (Steele 7), also called the Shoan which is the Hebrew word for catastrophe (Steele 7). So many countries took place in this 12-year genocide, including, “Germany, Italy, Japan, Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria, which were also known as the Axis Powers” (Steele 34). But, although there were all those countries they were all part of one larger group called the Nazis, were the ones who were killing all the different denominations of people. (Bachrach 58).
The death of many, the silence of all, and the never forgotten memories that will forever be with those who suffered the Holocaust. Imagining having to drown your own baby or toddler until he or she was dead? Being too afraid to do that could cost you your own life too. Having to worry about leaving your parents and having to fend for yourself would be quite of a struggle. Just being instantly sent off that have men with dogs and guns without knowing where and why you were leaving your home with strangers is something that would really change how you see the world.
Life as a Jew during the Holocaust can be very harsh and hostile, especially in the early 1940’s, which was in the time of the Holocaust. “Sometimes we can only just wait and see, wait for all the things that are bad to just...fade out.” (Pg.89) It supports my thesis because it explains how much the Jewish community as
