What I Learned From The Quran, Five Pillars, And Shia

During this semester, I have pertained a lot of knowledge from Introduction of Islam. Of course, this course is just a sneak peak of this fascinating religion, but I have learned so much in such a little amount of time. All throughout, everything has been so interesting and I am beyond thankful for taking this class because he helped me understand and get to know the religion of Islam. During our time as a class, we have learned about: Muhammad, the Quran, five pillars, and the Sunni and Shia. Muhammad plays a huge role in the religion of Islam. Muhammad was born in 570 CE in the town of Mecca and was a part of the Quraysh tribe. Sadly, he was orphaned at the age of six and was raised by his uncle, Abu Talib (father of Ali), who supported Muhammad, but he never became a Muslim himself. Before becoming a successor of Allah, he was a caravaner and was married to Khadijah where they produced six children, four girls and two boys. While she was alive, he never had any other wives, but would later have ten. All of his sons died at a very young age, leaving him with no male successors. In 610 CE, Muhammad was on his way to retiring to the hills in Mecca to pray and meditate, and this was when the first revelation from Allah was spoken to him (Night of Power). Each one was given a name that was picked from words in the surah. The names and the verse divisions are not a part of the revelation but was put this way to make it easier to read. It is approximately the size of the Christian New Testament. The Quran is typically memorized, even by children. The Quran was not written until after Muhammad’s death and there were competing versions, but Uthman picked one to be the true, authentic version and had the other ones destroyed.
