One of the greatest and most successful leaders of the ancient world was Alexander the Great. He conquered much of the middle east. He was a strong-willed, skillful, educated, and determined leader. Alexander set his stakes high, and did not even think first before defeating an army that was six times his size! Alexander was educated from a skillful philosopher, Aristotle, who taught him everything he needed to know to fully become who he is. He spread the Greek culture through Hellenism, wherever he went and influenced many thousands of people to imitate the Greek civilization. After his death, the civilization ruined everything that he worked for. At a young age, Alexander was taught to use his mind and body to accomplish many things. He liked to do what young kids like to do. Swimming, racing, horseback riding, and hunting were a few of the many things that young Alexander took an interest in. Alexander was also interested in Greek literature, which is why he carried Homer’s “Iliad” around wherever he went, even in the latter years to come. At the age of 16, Philip left Alexander in charge of Macedonia while he was away. Starting at age 14, he began studying with a famous philosopher from Athens. This philosopher is known as Aristotle.
