Baumrind’s style of caregiving is composed of mainly four different styles: authoritarian, permissive, authoritative, uninvolved. Authoritarian parenting is defined as an approach to a child rearing that is characterized by high behavioral standards, strict punishment of misconduct, and little communication (Berger 299). An example is if a child is playing with a toy and the caregiver asks to pick up all of the toys if not you will get time out. If the child chooses not to listen parent strictly enforces time out on the child. Permissive is an approach to a child rearing that is characterized by high nurturance and communication, but little discipline, guidance or control (Berger 299). For instance, a child and a cousin playing together then the child takes the toy away from the cousin. The parent then say yes you want to play with the toy, but let your cousin play with it then it could be your turn next. The last is neglect/uninvolved parenting that approaches to a child rearing in which the parents are indifferent towards their children and unaware of what is going on in their children’s lives (Berger 300).
