Following Chris McCandless death, there have been an uprising in people trying imitate what he did by leaving society and living all alone in the Alaskan wild. Unfortunately all of these people meet the same fate as Chris, proving just how harsh the living conditions are in Alaska. Living all alone in the Alaskan brush is something only a handful of people can accomplish. The winters are extremely cold and the wildlife can be a threat all on their own. For someone who had never lived in Alaska, Chris was able to successfully live on his own for about a month, killing and eating small game animals and with the minimal supplies that he brought. Leaving his life behind to travel and live in the wild was very reckless, however being reckless is what made Chris so courageous and what makes his journey admirable. Chris wanted to carry out his journey all on his own and to do this he gave up most of his material things. To start things off, the first thing he did was give all his money to charity. First and foremost, he didn't even bring a map. Chris purposely didn't bring a map because he didn't want to have any sort of safety net while he was living in the wild. An act like this is very courageous because he knew rick of death was worth it in order for him to be happy. Secondly, he didn't have any way to contact anyone in case of an emergency. This was the point of his whole journey: he didn’t want to rely on anyone except himself. Purposely walking into a situation that could potentially end your life in order to find true happiness shows just how determined and brave Chris actually was.
