Introduction
The Internet is a twentieth century phenomenon, changing the way that many of us
live our lives both at home and work but it has without doubt provided a new
opportunity for the criminal and now presents unprecedented challenges for modern
day law enforcement in the form of cyber crime investigations

However the investigation of cyber enabled crime is a much broader subject, with the HMIC report that only 3 out of 43 police forces are prepared for cyber crime, there is definitely room for concern, nevertheless with the current national roll out of cyber training for all detectives and the formation of Project Falcon in London there is optimism for the future.
There needs to be a vibrant blueprint on training in the present and future for police detectives so that they have the expertise, qualifications and experience to investigate cyber enabled crime. Noticeably training has been an issue in the poor response to cyber investigations so far, the current roll out by the college of policing in respect of cyber is a start but needs to be extended and consideration given to providing a separate PIP qualification, as in child protection, this will professionalise cyber investigations and empower the college of policing to keep a register of
qualified
