Domestic violence is a very serious issue as it happens extremely often in many households. Many women go through domestic violence either emotionally, mentally or physically. Domestic violence is much bigger than a black eye from a raised fist. Domestic violence is all too common around Australia and more should be done to help victims and their abusers.
Every family has problems and somethings do go wrong, even though it happens very often does not mean that it is right. Family violence takes many forms. It involves violent, abusive or intimidating behaviour carried out by a partner, carer or family member to control, dominate or instil fear. It doesn’t have to be physical abuse. Abuse can be emotional, psychological, financial, sexual or other types of abuse. It can affect anyone, no matter what age or gender they all have a serious effect on a person’s life. Around 4,000 women die each year due to domestic violence, which is a high number that should be lowered to 0.

helpline. For a woman who tries to leave their husband it takes at least 7 attempts to go to a safer place away from their abuser. It is very difficult and does take a toll on some people who do try to leave their abusers. Some women that do end up staying in their abusive relationships are because they don’t want to be hurt again as they might still love their partner. According to Anne L. Ganley, the total domestic violence homicides is about 75% of the victims that are killed as they attempted to leave the relationship or after the relationship had ended. Also it maybe just because they don’t have the strength to leave them as they might still be afraid of their abuser and even after the abuser is out of their
