IT Mission
The goals of the Information Technology Division are to provide timely and secure access to the financial systems, network and telecommunications systems, Police systems, Fresno County Sheriff Department systems and regional geographic information systems by all authorized personnel, train on changes to the systems, train new personnel on system use, and review and evaluate new systems for application on a city-wide basis.
IT Five-Year Outlook
The Division will continue to maintain the City’s telecommunications and network infrastructure to ensure secure and reliable access is available to city staff. Internal Information Technology Users
The purpose of this Public Safety IT Strategic Plan is to identify all the business needs of all the Public Safety technology users. It is pertinent to understand the business goals and needs of the Public Safety Departments; how vital the IT Division is and what impact the division have on the success of the end-users in performing their duties. This section will provide a brief overview outlining each of the areas of support in the Public Safety Departments.
Fire Department
The Fire Department provides fire, medical, rescue, and life safety emergency services within the City. The Police Department’s major service areas include patrol, investigation, records, communications—9-1-1 emergency services, youth services, and animal services. The Police Department provides crime analysis, community engagement, and operates an extensive video surveillance infrastructure for public safety. The Police Department relies on several critical information technology systems and services including computer-aided dispatch with data provided from GIS, 9-1-1 telephone, radio, records management, crime analysis, video surveillance, digital imaging and management, and access to data to and from several external agencies. Other critical technologies used by the Police Department are case management, property management, report-writing, mobile data computers, body camera video, license plate recognition, smartphones, tactical mobile command, crisis negotiation, and bomb squad vehicles, geospatial data for emergency responses and crime analysis, and social media
