Temple Grandin’s greatest contribution to society was the insight into autism that she gave to families with autistic children. This was very important because of the way that people with autism were perceived during Temple’s youth. In the movie, Temple’s mother was told to institutionalize Temple because there wasn’t much that could be done to treat her disorder. At that time, people didn't believe that children with autism had much potential, which is why parents, just like Temple’s mother, were advised to institutionalize their autistic children. Despite receiving negative advice from the doctor that she spoke to, Temple’s mother was determined to do whatever she could to make sure that Temple succeeded in her endeavors. When Temple talked
