The Atlanta Compromise speech was delivered on September 18, 1965, by Booker T. Washington. Booker T. Washington, born in 1856, emerged as a highly influential black leader. Washington emphasized the importance of education for black people, urging them to gain skills and trades with respect. The Atlanta Compromise speech encouraged African Americans to work instead of complaining, so white people could start to accept them over time. Booker emphasized that blacks should start working with white leaders because it can lead to more respect for black people. He also emphasized in his speech that it is important to value hard work and skills no matter what job or person has. He wanted white people to help empower African Americans because he believed it would make the economy stronger. Booker had so much faith in African Americans and tried to encourage them for what he thought was best. He knew this plan could work based on his experience. Booker T Washington would often get funding from white men. He would use the funding to help black people's education and even build schools. Booker was just hoping that all white people could come together and help make African Americans' lives easier. Booker T uses his ethos to connect with the audience he is delivering the speech to. Washington was not always popular, and he made it clear through his career that he was born into a slave family.
