It defines their identity and culture that holds the people together. Within a vast society like the American society, many social identity will be question if they do not conform to the norms. In any society, people will easily conform to follow norms that fit the views of the society
American culture includes the customs and traditions of the United States. It not just one thing it is such a broad aspect. "Culture encompasses religion, what we wear, what we believe is right or wrong, how we behave with loved ones, and a million other things. " American society back then a long time ago, however, was based off social classes and hierarchical positions.
In the film Coming to America describing the two cultures in the film are the African and American cultures from Africa and Queens New York. The African and American cultures in the movie are different in some ways but similar in other ways by the way the characters in the movie are all family oriented with the respect they show their parents and the way the parents only want what is best for their children. Then there are subcultures in the film that go a little further with style of living. The culture in Africa is that people are to wait on the royal family for everything they do, but in America, the family cares for themselves without the help of servants. The rites of passage are a cultural norm in Africa for the Royal family by having arranged marriages.

Americans need to start to understand the different cultures. The first reason is that they will be more educate and respectful people. For most of them, if you are from Indian or Bangladesh, you always will be from India. If you are from Argentina, Colombia, or Mexico, you always will be a Mexican. The first thing that came to my mind when I first heard the term “American Culture” is freedom. It is openly known to the world that United States of America is arguably one of the world’s most democratic countries. Even as early as in their Declaration of Independence, America has written the fundamentals of freedom in its laws and constitution that all men are created equal. Not unexpectedly, this freedom of being, over time, has given birth to a very strong freedom of expression and support of Human Rights in America. People in America are more tolerant toward individual differences compared to other societies.
I got a chance to interview one of American friend of my friend here and I asked him all the questions that I had in my mind about social and academic challenges that I was going through in the US. When you get to America some people already think of you as less so it is difficult to obtain a good job or even just natural adaption. It can be hard to flee your country and have to learn a whole new culture as seen by how upset Baba gets in the convenience store. “Almost two years we've bought his damn fruit and put money in his pocket and the son of a dog wants to see my license!” (127). One thing I love and embrace about being an American is the melting pot culture a great majority of us strive for in this country.
