Jack London is the author of both The Call of the Wild and To Build a Fire. In comparing these two stories, they both have a great Biblical message behind them. There are a lot of similarities and differences between these two stories. The Call of the Wild, is a whole story because it portray’s good as good and evil as evil but good wins. In To Build a Fire, this story is portrayed as a broken story because nature triumphs over man. In The Call of the Wild, started in Santa Clarar Valley California. Buck, the main character of the story, is a 140 pound St. Bernard dog who belonged to John Miller and his family. He ends up getting kidnapped and taken to Yukon Canada. Buck gets treated differently by certain people and he learns many different things that he didn’t know before. Dog traders teach Buck to obey by beating him with a club but Francis and Perrault were nice to him when he was a sled dog for them. Buck learns how to be a leader, he learns how to be a sled dog, he learns how to love and care for people, he learns how to become part of a pack, and most importantly, he learns the call of the wild. The old man struggles to make a fire and stay warm to survive. The old man knew that you should never travel alone in that kind of weather but he was stubborn. He tried to make it to the cabin where his friends were staying at but he made stupid choices and he ended up dieing from the cold. Nature is more powerful than man’s arrogance and lack of foresight.
