Analytic Research Paper The Manhattan Project was a critical moment in history because it developed and successfully deployed the first nuclear weapons by the U.S. during World War 2, it also ended the war and pushed the world into a new era of weapon technology and power dynamics between counties. The project was a top-secret research program made by the United States government during World War II to develop atomic weapons and put an end to the war. The Project was named after the location which was in Manhattan, New York. It was a collaborative effort between the U.S. government, the U.S. military, Robert Oppenheimer, Enrico Fermi, and Richard Feynman. This discovery paved the way for the development of nuclear reactors and the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The Manhattan Project also drove research in many other fields, including quantum mechanics, particle physics, and materials science. We can still see the project's effect in many areas of science to this day. The impact of the Manhattan Project at the end of World War II is the reason for the project in the first place. The atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of 1945 marked the first and only use of nuclear weapons in warfare so far. The bombings killed over 200,000 people and devastated the two cities causing the areas to have radiation and changing them forever. The bombings also led to Japan’s surrender and the end of World War II, which not only saved people's lives and brought a new era of global peace. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki remain a controversial part of history to this day, and many argue the use of atomic weapons was unnecessary. It is hard for me to say that the use of atomic bombs was a good thing, but in a long run it did save thousands of lives but sadly ended many as well. It’s important to note that the bombings were seen as necessary at the time to end the war and as I said save lives in the long run.
