Women's wrestling was sanctioned in the 2022-23 season after many years of women wrestling against men. High School women's wrestling has grown exponentially in the last few years and they continue to expand. So far almost every high school in Iowa has a women's wrestling team or a beginning one. Many girls have made history with the upcoming of this sport, and they will continue to. This is not only a men's sport, but a women's sport that deserves to be recognized. The science behind it gives a lot of insight into why the weight classes should be/and stay different. Men are usually built with more muscle mass than girls, and this isn't to say some women don't have the majority muscle mass, but in the big picture, women don't normally (IGHSAU). All high school wrestlers have to get what we call a body fat test done before they compete at all. In this test they have you pee in a cup and they pinch you're side and arm fat. This test shows how far you can go weight-wise in a season. For men, the test will show 7% of their fat, and for women, it will show 12% (KCII 2). Men and women are known to have very different builds across the body and the ways it's formed. A female wrestler from Coppell High School in Texas states that “losing weight is much harder for girls than boys, since a female body reacts differently to weight deficits at different times, sometimes even putting on extra weight as padding” (CSM). There is a big difference between cutting weight and losing weight. The health aspect of it, when you are losing weight you are gradually losing weight but when you are cutting weight you are unhealthy trying to drop weight in a short amount of
