Our culture has shaped baseball into a sexist and gender biased sport; therefore, women are taught challenging, feminine game of softball.
Today our culture continues to support the traditional gender roles that do not include women in certain athletics. Just turn on a baseball game or two and the proof of this can be seen- or not see, to be more precise. Not a woman can be found on the baseball diamond. Women attempt to foray into male dominated sports but there is resistance. The resistance is not just from men, but from society as a whole. The American culture wants women to fit into certain roles. Women are not typically associated with sports as men are. Men are encouraged to stick with a sport and be talented at it. They are taught to make a name for themselves on the field of competition. Women, on the other hand, are not similarly encouraged unless it is a feminized sport such as …show more content…

Title IX states that “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance” ( ). This required schools to offer all children equal opportunities in all the areas of school education. Girls could now be excluded from baseball because schools offered softball instead. Our culture believes that softball is a more suitable sport for girls. Females now have sports offered to them, but the sports are not equal and same as the boys. There are no women in Major League Baseball largely because of Title IX and the allowance of separate but equal sports opportunities for girls. Girls usually quit playing baseball before they start high school. Women never have the chance to compete on a competitive and professional level because they are not given any opportunities after middle
