A simple ground pass is one of the most basic plays in a soccer game. Newton's Second Law describes the motion of this pass. For a passing kick the player uses the inside of the foot because it provides the largest surface area to contact the ball. With this larger surface a player has better control of where he sends the ball. However with his leg turned outward it can’t be swung with maximum force. The ball won't go as far as it would with a power kick, where the knee points in the same direction in which the ball goes. The force of a power kick is needed to drive the ball down the field while the inside kick is better for limited distance when a strong momentum is not required. (7).
