Imagine that you are a troubled princess, lying on your back in the swamp, when you meet a talking frog who claims to be a prince from a faraway kingdom. He says that he has been cursed, and the only way to break the spell was if somebody kisses him. You pity the poor prince, so you lean in, kiss the frog, and in seconds you become a frog yourself! The “prince,” a dirty villager boy, runs away cackling like a witch and leaves you stranded in the swamp. In Vivian Vande Velde’s novel, Frogged, a villager boy tricks Princess Imogene into becoming a frog, while trying to find help she was kidnapped by a runaway teenager and taken to a traveling theater.
Gerda makes and loses many friends and finds her true love. All but my Life will make you laugh and cry. This book is best for anyone over the age of 11. All
From climbing up seven hundred foot cliffs to fighting off unusually large rodents, The Princess Bride is the story of an adventure that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. It is a romance narrative surrounding the cliché, the hero always gets the girl. We follow the protagonist Westley as he sets out on an action filled journey driven by his love for a woman named Buttercup. Certain characters such as princes, henchman, and witches are distinctively characterized during a romance narrative, but in The Princess Bride they inhabit alternative roles which contribute to this light hearted tale. The manipulation of tropes, commonly recurring literary devices, give a comedic feel to this intriguing and twist filled storyline.
“Sarah Cole: A Type of Love Story” is the tale of a young, handsome man who has an affair with, and ends up falling for, “the homeliest woman he has ever seen” but refuses to admit to others and himself that he loves her. The story seems to fit in any day and age, as well as any setting. From the moment we read the title, we know that the story is the tale of a dysfunctional romantic relationship, and the ensuing story does not disappoint. The main character, who is also the narrator, takes us on a journey to ten years prior, when he became involved with a woman named Sarah Cole. It is through the interchanging of first person and third person narration that we realize the reason behind Ron and Sarah’s failed relationship: vanity, shame, and insecurity.
Have you ever watched The Bachelor? If you are unfamiliar, The Bachelor is one of the top reality shows in America. The nation's beloved show has inspired many other works of art, including The Selection, written by Kiera Cass. The two pieces parallel each other because they both consist of a single man who searches among several women hoping to find "the one. " The Selection is a famous, young adult dystopian novel that centers around a young girl named America Singer, who is chosen to compete for the prince’s heart to become the future queen.
In a modern approach to Cinderella, Jessica Day George’s Princess of Glass gives fairy tale readers a whole different Cinderella perspective. Poppy, the main protagonist, is a young princess who is shown to be smart, independent, and not your usual royalty. She takes part in a royal exchange program to help unite her kingdom. Over there, she meets Prince Christian, the ‘Prince Charming’ of the story. He is first introduced to the readers as a young man whose parents want him to marry therefore throwing him big parties to meet the girl of his dreams.
The book I am reading is called The One. The page I am on is page 235/323. This book is about the final 4 girls trying to win the spot of the prince’s wife. So far America is in the lead and Maxon, the prince, really wants to marry her. But his father doesn’t even like her
The story The One is about America Singer winning the selection and falling in love with the prince, Maxon Schreave. After previous books, the two’s love for eachother deepened more and more during the selection. Because of the different government in Illea, Maxon was unable to go out and find his love, so he had to bring it to him. After 36 girls were narrowed down more and more, Maxon and America worked through the journey of jealousy, other relationships, and secrets. They managed to pick each other, but only did the two know it when the King and Queen were killed in a rebel attack, and Maxon had to choose.
America's Broken Dream Intro: The book “Selections” by Kiera Cass. In the short stories “A Rose for Emily” and “The Story of an Hour,” the authors use literary devices to create vibrant female characters. These literary devices include diction, imagery, language, and sentence structure. “The Story of an Hour,” written by Kate Chopin, opens with a woman, Louise Mallard, who has a heart disease, and her friends must gently break the news to her that her husband has passed away in a railroad accident. She mourns briefly, but then realizes that she can now live for herself, instead of just as someone’s wife. Shockingly, she walks downstairs after fleeing from her friends’ horrible news, and her husband walks in the door.
My book is called “The Selection” by Kiera Cass. In the book people are living in a dystopian world where war has brought rise to a kingdom named Illéa. The society is separated into different caste from an excellent lifestyle to a poor one. It begins from caste 1 which is royalty then, soldiers, teachers, farmers, musicians and artists, cleaners, factory workers to caste 8 which is homeless people. The main character, America Singer is in caste 5, which is musicians and artists.
Everyone heard of it. But I want to tell you another story. A similarly short and simple yet different story. A story about a princess saving her prince from danger.
Thirty-six of these students are white. Then twenty-one is African American. This leaves eight Asian students, five bi-racial students, four Middle-Eastern students, and six students are Hispanic. Out of the one-hundred and forty-five students, thirty-five of these students are above grade level. There are eighteen white students, seven African American students, five Asian students, three Hispanic students, one Middle-Eastern student, and one bi-racial
I like the fact that the men in their lives have interesting stories as well. The male love interest in Book Two (Lily’s story) is Sarah’s brother, and the male love interest in Book Three is Aidan, Jamie’s friend from New York. His story is quite compelling, if I do say so myself. What are you working on right now?
