Teaching elementary school students the basics of stage lighting as part of their musical theatre program has shown me the importance of recognizing the limitations of myself as a leader and not being afraid to seek the wisdom and experience of others. Being a leader does not necessarily mean that they know everything. In some instances, they are the last to know. What makes a leader effective is not their knowledge capability, but their ability to see learning opportunities in even the direst of circumstances.
