“Sarah Nowak -- Scenic Artist” I have always been a follower, whether it be because I was afraid of screwing up and everyone blaming me, or just not wanting the responsibility; I do not know. That changed, however, when I joined my school’s theatre program as a set painter. I began there as a follower, too. Suddenly, for the second winter show, there were no leaders available for paint crew, so I became one. That was my first taste of leadership.

What Makes an Effective Leader? There are leaders all around you and you probably did not even know it. A leader is a person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. This could be parents, teachers, or the president of a country.
Paternalistic managers as the name insinuates focus more attention to the social needs and views of their employees. Superiors are interested in how happy workforces feel and in many ways they act as a father figures. They refer to employees over issues and listen to their feedback or opinions. The managers make the actual decisions within the best interests of the workers as they believe the workforce still need direction and in this way it is somewhat of an autocratic approach. The style is closely linked with Mayo's Human Relation view of motivation and also the social needs of Maslow.
I learned how to teach the techniques that I learned at Washington State University. I taught students daily in speech therapy, assisted in assessments, aided in IEPs. It was awesome to see the progress of these students over time. This was the start to my enormous amount of experience with expressive and receptive language development, and learning disabilities. What is the perfect amount of power for an executive leader to have and what would happen if this leader would have too much power? When it comes to an executive leader’s power, a happy medium must be obtained in order to have a successful government. Ultimately, the executive leader should have enough power to react to an attack or threat in a timely manner, but not enough power that the executive leader can do whatever he or she wants. Stage managing is an art. More than any other passion of mine, stage managing demands a level of focus and commitment that tests my limits each and every day that I choose to continue in theater. As the first line of defense against missed cues, broken props, forgotten lines, and anything else Murphy's Law can come up with, my job is as preemptive as it is reactionary. A stage manager must have an acute attention to detail as well as a capacity for organizing and planning.
