What Makes Me, Me? My parents named me Kirstin Julie Ellen Lewise Gillman on October 15th of 1997. My first name means “follower of Christ” and is of Latin origin. I was born in Texarkana of Texas. Born fifteen days late at 8lbs. and 15oz., I was determined to never be late again. What makes me who I am today is a collection of events that have occurred from the moment I was born to present day. When I was very young, barely a toddler, my parents separated. I do not have any memories of my parents ever being together due to the fact that they were divorced before I was old enough to remember such events. All that I know of that time was that my mother was pregnant with my younger sister, Alisa, and that my father had left because my mother was unfaithful. We lived with my mother until our mobile home burned. Subsequently, we moved in with our mother’s sister, our aunt, until our mother gave custody of us up to our father. I started playing volleyball in the fourth grade and continue to play to this day. Volleyball is a sport that I have grown to love no matter how many times I may struggle. I do not struggle because I am bad though, I struggle because I may become frustrated with myself for making one mistake, but I somehow manage to keep my head up and stay strong. I am able to play any spot on the court, but I have a slight disadvantage when it comes to the middle hitter position. I am 5’5, so it makes it a bit difficult to block hits from girls that are anywhere from a half a foot taller than me to a whole foot taller, but my main position is back row.
