After the death of Toumi, Jeffrey Dahmer began to kill much more frequently hence this may have been the death that started the future murders. Dahmer never had a plan or a schedule of when he was going to kill and he did not have any specific victims targeted. In fact, he was considered by many to be a disorganized killer. The specifications to be considered a disorganized killer include, “kill when the urge strikes them, random and sloppy, violence sudden with little conversation,” which was exactly how Dahmer went about murdering people (Bauman 8). The only specifications he used in deciding who to kill were that his victims were male and homosexual. These specifications worked well for him because then he was able to stall near gay bars …show more content…
This was the fourth victim Dahmer had brought to his apartment in that month alone; therefore his rate of massacres was becoming more frequent (Schwartz 225). He gave Tracy a drink which Edwards assumed probably had a knockout drug in it because Jeff kept asking if he was high yet. Soon after, Dahmer attacked Edwards with handcuffs and a large knife and forced him to watch a movie together. Jeff decided he always needed to set the stage before he killed someone, which was not too logical because it gave the prisoners a chance to escape, but it allowed Jeff to meet the victim. Edwards kicked Dahmer when he had a chance, escaped the apartment, found two police officers, and quickly explained to them the situation that had occurred. Even after seeing the condition of this man running in handcuffs, the officers were a bit reluctant to believe him. When the officers decided to investigate, they went to Dahmer’s apartment positive that Edwards was over-exaggerating the occurrence. Jeffrey would have had time to catch Tracy or to escape his apartment once Tracy Edwards escaped but he decided to stay. This could have been a form of giving up where he truly did not care if he would be arrested. After Officer Mueller and Officer Rauth introduced themselves to Dahmer, they asked to have a check inside and Dahmer reluctantly agreed, “almost as if he had a death wish,” (Bauman 47). He knew he had acted wrongly and consequently knew he would soon serve a harsh punishment for the actions he had committed. For that reason, instead of attempting to conceal the evidence of his murders he decided to help the investigators find the remains of the victims in order for the families to be notified of what happened with their loved one. This may have been an attempt for a lighter punishment or it may have been an aspiration to help the police and the victim’s families. He described to the detectives a graphic portrayal of what he did to each victim as well as how and where he hid the victim, helping with the body identification process. After being convicted, the leads for the story took up four thousand pages of police records (Fischer 189) and his court trials were the most expensive in court history, costing more than $120,000 (Schwartz 216). The final verdict to Jeffrey Dahmer was sixteen consecutive life sentences without parole (Davis 297). By the end of the trial Jeffrey claimed to have found God and was prepared for the sentence he was to be given. Days before his final hearing he sent a letter to the judge not asking for a reduced penalty but instead to apologize to the families and to inform the judge that he was prepared for his sentence. He stated that the only person he believed would be able to forgive him was Jesus
