Imagine being in the midst of a war where 70,000 Afghan military and police died and 46,319 Afghan civilians died.Afghanistan has gone through many changes. It started as a very peaceful and beautiful place. Soon the Taliban came and completely transformed the country. It transitioned them into a war zone where bombs and people were getting attacked around every corner. Kabul used to be a peaceful place where children would run around and fly their kites. In the 1960s Kabul was in what most people call their Golden Era, this is the equivalent to the Roaring 20s in the US. This was where many people thrived and lived their best lives together. Not only were the adults relaxing with a great economic status, but the children were also having fun and relaxing. They knew their parents were doing great and taking care of everything. In the book The Kite Runner, the author wrote “When we were children,...We took turns in the mirror as we ate mulberries, pelted each other with them, giggling, laughing”(p.3) This shows that a long time ago they were very happy hanging out together in the open where anyone could see them.
