People may be surprised to learn that teens today are less likely to be having sex than in the past. In the last 20 years, the percentage of sexually experienced teenagers has significantly declined. Teen birthrates had declined 34 percent from 1991 to 2005 with accompanying declines in teen pregnancy rates. Generally, teens who do not engage in sexual activity give conservative values or fear of pregnancy, disease, or parents as their reasons. Individuals choose abstinence for other reasons as well.

There are so many issues with this idea, it is like they are encouraging the younger kids to have sexual intercourse at an early stage in their young lives. To middle schoolers, I am sure they think they are the big deal once they get a hold of their very first condom, but do not even know how to use it or even put one on. I think that because they do know these things, they will become even more nervous to practice safe sexual intercourse. Going back to my bio, I joked that my sex education could be chalked up to an episode of “The Wonder Years.” I attended 1st-12th grade in Eugene, Oregon from 1980 to 1992.
