Many famous pieces of work and their artists came from this period, artists such as Michelangelo, van Eyck and da Vinci. Leonardo da Vinci is most famous for his piece called the Mona Lisa. Looking at Johann Sebastian Bach’s and George Frideric Handel’s lives, we could find some similarities, like the fact they were both from Germany, but there are also several ways in which their lives differ. Johann Sebastian Bach was born and grew up in a musical family, receiving an early musical instruction from his father. At that time, it was very common for people to be taught music by their relatives. Very young, he is encouraged to pursue his education in music, and soon obtained his first post as organist. George Frideric Handel, on the contrary, even though he was showing musical gift during his childhood, was not encouraged to pursue his education in music, but was encouraged to study law instead.
Johann Sebastian Bach was a German composer and musician born in 1685 of the Baroque period and is famously known for his instrumental compositions such as Prelude and Fugue No. 2 in C minor, Toccato and Fugue in D minor, and Magnificat just to name a few. Since the 19th century, Bach has been generally regarded as the greatest composer of all time. Being the last of eight children to be born into the Bach family, Johann basically had his life set up for him because his father was a city musician from Eisenach. Johann became an orphan at the tender age of ten and went to live with his brother in Luneburg while continuing his musical formation. I would like to think that Johann had a predominantly stable and great life, but he had to work hard
Both J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel use different aspects of music to compose important pieces of music. The baroque period is often known as the time when artists exaggerated their motion and produced drama through interpreted detail. Both of these composers used this baroque style to convey messages through their music. The similarity in their music was that it is in a spiritual manner. J.S. Bach’s style was a harmonic and motivation manner, which Handel’s is more of a narrative.
When George Frideric Handel was a little kid, his uncle gave him a clavier which was a small keyboard-like instrument in secret because he knew that George loved the beautiful notes of music. One night, his parents heard music wafting throughout the house in the middle of the night and knew not from whence it came. When they searched the house, they found George playing melodies on his instrument. This was one of the first times that he would experience music for himself and lead him to have a career that would produce one of the most inspiring pieces of all time: the Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah.
