Untimely death is an extremely tragic event, however what makes it worse is when it is because of one's family. In Shakespeare's most famous play, many are to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Though one might argue that Frair Lawrence or Romeo and Juliet themselves are responsible, it is in fact Lord and Lady Capulet. The Capulets are responsible because of their controlling personalities, forcing Juliet to marry Count Paris, and their ongoing feud with the Montagues. Throughout the story, Juliet was subjected to her parents' controlling personalities. Lord Capulet has always been the parental figure in charge. This is demonstrated when discussing marriage with Paris and Juliet, Capulet stated, “she will be ruled / in all respects by me” (III. iv. l. 14-15). As stated, Lord Capulet is very controlling of his daughter. This is additionally exemplified when Lord Capulet forces Juliet to marry Paris by making decisions for her. When discussing wedding arrangements with Paris, Capulet states, “O’ Thursday let it be. -O’ Thursday, tell her, / she shall be married to this Nobel earl” (III. v. l. 23-24). By forcing Juliet to marry Paris, it builds even more resentment towards Paris and Capulet. Thus, causing Juliet to want Romeo more. In fact, this marriage is so unappealing to Juliet, that she states, “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, / from off the battlements of any tower, / or walk in thievish ways, or bid me lurk / where serpents are. Chain me with roaring bears" (IV. i. l. 78-81). In this quote, Juliet states how she would rather die than be with Paris.
