Basically he broke down politics to a science on how to use it to rule the people. Most notably in his book “The Prince”. -He was born into a prominent family that had fallen on rough times due to his father who was a lawyer but was left with the debts of his father/Uncle. This debt made him unable to hold public office. -It seems that he received a formal education. He also learned a vast amount of knowledge from his father’s library. -When he was 29 he became the second chancery. He held this position from 1498 until 1512 when the Medici family returned to power and banished him to his farm after torturing him for some time. -During his exile he wrote The Prince which discusses the different principalities, how a prince should rule, and how to use the military. He suggests that a prince should always be thinking of war and new lands. This book was aimed at Lorenzo di Medici in order to win back his favor. -The Prince was written in 1512 but wasn’t published until 5 years after his death in 1532. The Catholic Church also banned this book, The Discourses, and the rest of his teachings for about 200 years because they weren’t in line with that of the churches.
