On September 25 of 1789 our founding fathers constructed the Constitution of the United States, Which included the second Amendment where it allowed civilians the right as American to bear arms. On October 22,1968 president Lyndon B. Johnson signed a The Gun Control law of 1968. The Gun control act of 1968 was part of a “great society” movement by president Johnson that was initiated after the assassination of president Kennedy (Eakins). In the 1994 ban signing by president Clinton and the federal government, which imposed 19 types of military-style weapons to be banned for ten- years. This legislation was intended to reduce the gun violence and decreased national tragedies.

Criminals don’t follow laws. Gun control laws are more oppressive on citizens than criminals, which is literally someone who has broken, or is breaking, a law. Why are some gun control laws and rulings so heavily pushed? Especially considering that the majority of these laws have very little actual basis aside from the “guns are scary and bad” train of thought. This is going to be going into why most of these laws, current, and proposed, make no sense such as the Magazine Capacity bans that some states are putting in place, the entirety of the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA), and the 1994 Assault Weapon Ban(AWB).
A term often used in modern debates about firearms is “law-abiding citizen”. While “law-abiding” means “abiding by or obedient to the law” according to Merriam-Webster, it also carries the connotation that said citizen poses no outward threat to the other inhabitants of this wonderful country. However, with guns on both sides of the issue, both saving lives and taking them, their proliferation throughout American society raises concerns about where to draw the line with regards to gun control legislation. With Time citing over 30,000 deaths due to gun violence a year, legislation must be effective in order to reduce such a startling number (Hale 1).
Gun laws are one of the reason that rates the percentage of criminals over the US population. The implementation of stricter gun laws will not terminate crime. Washington, D.C. has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, yet it is one of the most dangerous places in the country to live. Criminals that seek to harm others do not obey laws. Changing the laws of a country or the making of new ones does not get rid of the problem. Adding more rules and regulations could create larger problems that do not involve guns, but instead, other types of weapons.
In 1994 The Federal Assault Weapons Ban was released into the United States. Since then, a sufficient amount of anti-gun organizations have been attempting to establish stricter laws on assault weapons. The main reason for stricter laws is the fact that they could be used to harm others. Though assault weapons could be used for destruction, a ban on said weaponry would be accounted for as useless in today’s society.
Over the course of many years, Gun Control has been the issue of debate for many people. Some say "Yes, let's ban all guns!" While others say "No way, you can’t take all the weapons away from me!" Furthermore, we have those in the middle, who want more control, but don't want guns taken away completely.
Kids are afraid of many things, such as clowns, the dark, spiders, terrorists, but guns shouldn’t belong to that list. Children aren’t supposed to know about guns at a young age. Children usually become more aware about guns at an age where they start to play video games with guns. Some kids even hear about school shootings on the news. If Gun control laws were more strict there would be a smaller percent chance of guns getting in the wrong hands.
If not guns, it's knives. If not knives, it's clubs. If not clubs, what's next? As much as we would like to believe we live in a perfectly sound world, the reality is, the world which we live will always have crime. Contrary to popular belief, gun crime is not the only kind of crime there is.
Robert A. Heinlein, a famous American science-fiction writer, said that “there are no dangerous weapons. There are only dangerous men.” which means guns don't kill people, but people do. The debates about gun control laws in the United States of America have never stopped. The Second Amendment defines people have their rights to keep and bear arms.
Violence is around us and always happens. Even guns are associated with violence. This needs to stop and the problem needs to be fixed now. Guns have gotten a bad reputation over its time and have become worse due to crime. That is why gun laws were made to control the use of gun ownership, and to reduce crime.
Gun control laws may restrict these people who are responsible from defending themselves. So honestly gun control contradicts itself as much as it helps. For starters does gun laws really deter crime. No, honestly gun control does not deter crime in all cases.
Alexis Clarke Professor Frank English 110 29 October 2015 Gun Control Will Not Eliminate Crime The big issue of gun control in the United States, is that many people believe that it takes away the 2nd Amendment rights, which is the right to bear arms. Citizens of the United States are promised the the right to bear arms in the Constitution, and by applying gun control laws takes away that same right. Crime is high enough in cities with very few laws pertaining to gun control, but taking guns away from people who are registered with license will not solve the problem either. Placing more limitations on gun owners, particularly responsible gun owners, will not reduce gun violence.
