Ronald Graham was born in Taft California, October 31, 1935. Robert Graham is a mathematician who is fascinated with all kinds of mathematical curiosities. He has a large collection of mathematical puzzles, geometry puzzles, Rubik's cube's, juggling balls, and other curiosities. For instance “[a]s Grant chats with the visitor, his hand moves across his desk toward a blue plastic object shaped like a cigar flattened on one side. Catching the visitor's eye, Graham gives the object an offhand flick that sets it spinning clockwise… After a moment, something strange happens: the spinning object slows, stops, and then -- reverses!” He pretended to be surprised. He then asked the visitor “how did that happen?” He then explains that it has something …show more content…
However, he does not play with this puzzle as one might think. Ronald Graham enjoys juggling them. That’s, right, juggling them. As it turns out Ronald Graham is an expert juggler. As a matter of fact, Ronald Graham was once the president of The International Jugglers Association (UCSD, 2010). Furthermore, in addition to being an expert juggler, he is also an amazing trampolinist. He was even able to earn his college tuition working as a professional acrobat. In his college days, Ronald Graham was in a circus act called The Bouncing Bears; moreover, he was also on stage with Cirque du Soleil (UCSD, 2010). Ronald Graham was even featured on Ripley’s Believe it or Not; however, his incredible abilities in mathematics were not the main focus. It was for his expertise as an expert juggler and being an amazing trampolinist (Wikipedia, 2010). Ronald Graham is always attempting to learn new things. “He was [a] ping pong champion, [he] has bowled two 300 games, and still practices the trampoline… Since leaving college he has learned to play the piano and speak Chinese. He is deadly with a boomerang and is quickly becoming an excellent tennis player” (Merow). He believes that this is one of the best ways to exercise your brain and keep it …show more content…
He did this without ever completing High School (Schecter, 1985). While attending The University of Chicago he joined a school program called Acrotheater, where he learned gymnastics, juggling, and trampolining (America, 1997). He then joined the Air Force and was stationed in Fairbanks Alaska. While he was there, he attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He went to college during the day and during the night he fulfilled his duties to the Air Force as a communications specialist. It was at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where Ronald Graham received his Bachelor of Science in physics in 1958. He later went to the University of California at Berkeley where in 1961 he received his master’s degree in mathematics. Ronald Graham then went on to get his PH. D in mathematics at The University of California at Berkeley in 1962 (Schecter, 1985). Ronald Graham also holds five honorary
