The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a tragic play about the love and eventual death of two star-crossed lovers entwined by fate. Juliet Capulet is the female protagonist, and Romeo Montague is the male protagonist. The two come from families that have feuded and hated each other for generations, but nonetheless, they fall in love. However, at the end of the story, Romeo as well as Juliet commit suicide off the misunderstanding that Romeo thought Juliet had died. This misunderstanding is tied to many people, but the true root of Romeo and Juliet’s suicides is none other than their own families. However, their hatred for each other is only part of the reason why they are responsible for the lover’s death. The true reason is how they treated their respective children, Romeo and Juliet, and did not respect their wishes. The whole reason why Juliet faked her death was to get out of her parents forcing her to marry Count Paris, as Juliet was already married to Romeo. But Juliet couldn’t simply tell her parents she was married to a Montague, because the Capulets hate the Montagues. So Juliet had to fake her death, and the star-crossed lovers ended up dead because of it. Even though the root cause of Romeo and Juliet’s death lies in the Capulets and Montagues, there are also many other people that could possibly be to blame. For example in the play, Tybalt, Juliet's hot-headed cousin, kills Romeo's friend Mercutio. In order to get revenge Romeo kills Tybalt, and as punishment Romeo is sentenced to exile.
