Romeo and Juliet Essay Romeo could have been considered a mass murderer in today's setting. In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Romeo was at fault for almost all of the deaths that occurred. Romeo was to blame for the death of Mercutio, Tybalt, Paris, and his wife Juliet because he was too foolish and self absorbed to recognize his own misjudgment. In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Romeo indirectly kills his friend Mercutio, and murders Tybalt. After a bloody duel, Romeo was outraged at Mercutio’s death and fought Tybalt to the death. Romeo said, “Alive in triumph, and Mercutio slain! Romeo warns Paris that he is not going to argue with him and that he will kill him. Romeo at the end of the play is going on almost a killing spree, getting rid of anyone who gets in his way, including himself. The whole theme of the play is fate, it’s the fate of Romeo and Juliet. Juliet’s life could have been better protected and less in danger if it wasn’t for Romeo’s constant misjudgment. Juliet says “What’s here?”. A cup, closed in my true love’s hand? Poison, I see, hath been his timeless end,”(5.3.161). Juliet witnessed what Romeo did by drinking the poison and felt responsible. If Romeo had waited just a little over five minutes, then he wouldn’t have drank the poison, saving both of their lives. Romeo was very quick to drink the poison and if he stopped to think for once then he could have prevented death on both accounts. Romeo states “Hath had no power yet upon thy beauty. Thou art not conquered; beauty’s ensign yet is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks,”(5.3.93). Juliet was awakened from the potion she drank and Romeo noticed how lovely she was and yet he still was quick to off himself.
