The Tragedies Romeo Causes In the story of Romeo and Juliet, many characters tragically die due to various reasons. However, one specific character is definitely to blame for all of the deaths in the story; the character most responsible for the deaths in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is Romeo himself. If Romeo had not intervened and tried to come between Tybalt and Mercutio while they were dueling, then Mercutio would not have gotten stabbed by Tybalt and died. While Mercutio was dying, he told Romeo “Why the devil you came between us? I was hurt under your arm." (Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet) This provides evidence that Mercutio knew if Romeo was not there to intervene, he would have won the duel and survived. Romeo is also responsible for the death of the County of Paris. When Romeo hears of Juliet’s “Death” he gets very dramatic and is unable to control his sadness or anger when he goes to the cemetery so, in his fury, he kills Paris before even knowing who he is. “In faith, I will let me pursue his face. Mercutio's Kinsman, noble County Paris.”(Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet) This is when Romeo finds out who he just killed is Paris and is surprised and saddened. If Romeo had been able to control his anger and sadness, then he would probably not have been so fired up when he heard Paris in the cemetery and killed him. Of course, Romeo is responsible for his own death by how he drank poison to kill himself. When Romeo is at the cemetery, after killing Paris, he goes to see “Dead” Juliet and kills himself next to her because he is so dramatic. Romeo should have been able to control his feelings better so that they did not have such a strong impact on his actions.
