In Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet are two teenagers who fall in love during the ongoing chaos between their parents, Lady and Lord Capulet and Lord and Lady Montague. The struggle for political power between the families made it so Romeo and Juliet could not date. It was love at first sight. Unfortunately, Juliet already has a marriage set up and is coming up soon. Romeo looks past that, the love he feels for Juliet is too strong to let something or someone get in the way. It could’ve been a beautiful love story. If only Romeo wasn’t to blame for their deaths. One example from the play was when they first met (1.5.94-105). In the story, he even says “Yes, but I’m afraid I’m in more trouble than ever” (1.5.115). This clearly shows that he was aware it was dangerous and not allowed and he was okay with putting Juliet's life at risk. Another example from the play is when Romeo found out that Juliet died (5.3.85). Had he just stayed out of Verona after that, like he was supposed to, he could have saved not only himself but her as well. After he had found out that Juliet was dead, he went to someone to get a potion that could kill a man with just a drop because he planned on killing himself if Juliet was actually “dead.” Then he sneaks back into Verona to see Juliet with his own eyes. It hit Romeo that it was all real and that Juliet was “gone.” He kisses Juliet (which is what he was supposed to do and he would’ve known that if he just stayed in Mantua, and lays down beside her to die by her side via poison. Some might say that Juliet is also to blame for following Romeo and the Friar's plan but she was a thirteen year old girl who was in love, love makes you make crazy decisions..
