How is someone a hero? The definition of a hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, great/brave acts, or noble qualities. Joseph Smith was a hero. He did all of the thing that are listed. Some people hated him and thought that what he did or saw wasn’t true. However, it’s what the works he did, and all his faith in his testimony that made him one. One characteristic that heroes have is courage. Joseph Smith had moral courage. When he was doing service and doing the works of the lord he, he had reasons to be fearful. Many people would gather in mobs and try to hurt him and his family. Joseph Smith was brave when he had to stand up against people and tell them what he saw. When Joseph Smith was 14 years old, he was confused by the difference of the churches in his area, and wanted to know which one was right. He then came upon reading in the Bible, James 1:5, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given unto him.” He then came to the conclusion that he must either remain in darkness and confusion, or do as James directs and ask of God. He then went into the woods to make his attempt. Once he found a place to pray, having looked around him, he found himself alone. When Joseph prayed to know the truth, he saw a pillar of light exactly over his head, it was above the brightness of the sun. When the light rested upon Joseph he saw two personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above him in the air. One of them spake unto him, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other ”This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!” He was told not to join any of the churches, for “They were all wrong,” and “They draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”. He then again forbade Joseph to join with any of them. A few days later Joseph told a Methodist preachers, who was very active in the before mentioned religious excitement; and told him about the vision. The preacher then told joseph saying it was all of the devil, that there were no such things as visions or revelations in these days. After he told the preacher word spread and people thought he lied about it. He was hated and persecuted for saying that he had saw a vision. Even though he could have gave up.
