The most romantic love story of all time is a lie. The play “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare tells the story of two teenagers and their love that is forbidden because of the rivalry between their families. Romeo and Juliet fell in love quickly and deeply but four days later they were lying dead next to each other in a tomb because they had killed themselves. The Feud between the Montagues and Capulets is singlehandedly responsible for the demise of Romeo and Juliet. The first example of the feud causing issues is that Romeo and Juliet were forced to hide their love because their parents would never approve of it. When the Prince sees the corpses of Romeo and Juliet he says, “Where be these enemies? Capulet! Montague! / See what a scourge is laid upon your hate, / That heaven finds means to kill your joys with love” (5.3.291-293). Prince Escalus realized that their deaths were a direct result of the ongoing battle between their two houses. When Tybalt recognizes Romeo’s voice at the Capulet’s party, he says, “This, by his voice, should be a Montague. / Fetch me my rapier boy…/ To strike him dead I hold it not a sin” (3.3.15-16).
