This growth continued during the 1990’s with over a dozen mergers of smaller natural groceries stores across the nation and the success continued into the early twenty-first century with John Mackey still at the reins, leading the company as CEO. Challenges grew as well with Whole Foods involvement in several issues related to Business Ethics, including unethical decisions, careless handling of relationships among rivals, complaints of violating anti-trust laws, and controversial activity by the CEO. In addition to Whole Food’s products being considered too expensive, they were also criticized for their acquisitions of small community grocery stores. Numerous residents did not want their stores bought out or closed down, they worried about the impact on the smaller
Most of the food sold in stores are brand indifferent, meaning that customers care about the product, not the brand name. Think of milk, eggs, meat. Nobody asks for a certain type of milk, they just want milk. Any large grocery store chain which does not have in-house product of basic food items is operating inefficiently. Compare Trader Joe's to other large grocery store chains such as Ralphs or Vons, they do not have any in-house products.

1. Opening a series of new supermarkets, such as 365, affects many items in both the income statement and the balance sheet. When it comes to the income statement the main accounts that are affected are revenue, cost revenue, and multiple operating expenses. To start, the main goal of Whole Foods by expanding their company is to create more sales causing the revenue account of the income statement to increase. However, another factor that will increase would be the cost of revenue.

Single-handedly, they have been able to target a vast array of consumers as well as destigmatize their brand as being upscale or inaccessible to the everyman. For reference, the company is often referred to as "Whole Paycheck," as a way of highlighting one of the most negative side effects of eating organic ("Whole Foods Tries to Shake 'Whole Paycheck' Rep with Cheaper Spinoff"). Whole Foods holds a negative stereotype as being something that only wealthy people can afford, something that is both unfortunate and realistic at the same time. Whole Foods, is showing that two “average joes,” can not only purchase high quality, stereotypically masculine food items; but also, a brand that appeals to vegans. Which has followers of a paleo diet and has achieved a great deal of brand exposure.
I chose Publix Super Market because it is only about 2 miles away so it is very convenient for me. Publix Super Market has fruits and veggies, and also brand name food. It is like a Hy-Vee. I will be packing lunch everyday for work. I will buy breads, meats, fruits, and veggies to pack.
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION Whole Foods Market was created as a grocery store to serve as providing healthier options for consumers (Whole Foods Market History, 2016). Whole Foods has recently begun a target of the younger demographic, such as millennial that are increasingly becoming more concerned with the food they are putting in their bodies (Low, 2015). However, there is a large shift happening within the retail industry, including grocers concerning consumer behavior (Lewis & Dart, 2010). The problem Whole Foods is having though is the lack of adaption they are having to the changing society. Having a younger demographic with such high price and quality items is causing a disconnection with consumers and brand loyalty.

In all Trader Joe’s is one of the leading super markets in the U.S., but after careful analysis of their operations I believe there are opportunities that are currently being ignored by the company. The company doesn’t need to act on all the recommendations that I made, however it would be in their best interest to do so. However, people assimilate McDonald’s to junk food unlike the ”Subway buster”.
