If you are an animal lover like I am, it probably pains you to think about an animal death, especially if the animal is purposely put down for no reason. All animal shelters should be no kill because they are killing healthy animals and killing is an unfair process. Some people think that there should be kill shelters because if they don’t put down the animal, it will need to spend a long time in a cage. In my piece you will find out why animal shelters should be no kill, even though some people disagree. One reason why all animal shelters should be no kill is because the killing shelters most of the time kill perfectly healthy and adoptable animals. Animal shelters with the “kill” policy give the animals in their shelter a limited amount of time for the animal to find their forever home or a foster home (fortheloveofwriting). But really, it just means that they haven’t found the perfect owner yet. HAWS, a no kill animal shelter, says, “ Here at HAWS we don’t turn our community’s animals away, keeping our doors open to help the animals of families in distress as well as lost and stray animals. We strive daily to meet the strong expectation of a no kill nation, reaching the leaders of tomorrow through our many educational opportunities.” Many other no kill animal shelters (including HAWS) live by the standard that an animal shelter is a place to house animals until they find a forever home, and care for the animals until then. But killing animal shelters keep an animal until either they get adopted or until the animal gets killed because it takes more than the strict time limit given to find their forever home.
