Throughout the book Odysseus would undergo many challenges as well as life threatening situations in order to achieve his quest. He is a man who was both loved and hated by the god of Mt. Olympus. While others used their powers in his favor, some used them to hinder and if possible stop him from going home. For example due to his both his arrogance and conceitedness, the god Poseidon would cause for a rough voyage that would push him further from Ithaca and at one point cause a shipwreck that drowns his crew. One other notable trial of his journey was the encounter with the sirens.
Something about Odysseus that makes his stories relevant today is his actions and dedication. In the epic, The Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, shows several examples of conflicts. The Hero’s Journey pattern remain consistent because majority of today’s movies, books, etc are based off of those steps. Odysseus had to do things that people go through and that they do today. Some examples are, disputing against the Cyclops, traveling through the Land of the dead, fighting in the Trojan War, and more critical situation that happened in the epic.
In The Odyssey, by Homer, Odysseus traveled far and wide in search of his way home. He wanted to go home back to his wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus. In total, Odysseus spends almost twenty years trying to find his way home back to his family and his throne. He has gone through many misfortunes and he almost runs out of time to keep his wife. If he did not make it back and prove to everyone that he is truly Odysseus, his wife might have married another man.

He faces everything from Sea Nymphs to Sirens, from Lotus Eaters to Cyclopes, and from Enchantresses to even the Gods themselves. Because Odysseus stuck through and pursued on, he finally returned to his wife and child. When Odysseus arrives in his homeland, Athena directs him to Eumaeus’ hut where he meets his son. At first, his son refuses to believe his father has come back, but eventually convinces himself his father has truly returned.

Odysseus heroically leads his crew and himself through dangerous obstacles, but also foolishly endangers them during the journey home.

Additionally, his writings/message spread and helped influence western culture. Lastly, his writings had a massive impact on future writing and literary styles. This is all due to his amazing use of story elements, theme/moral, and figurative language intertwined throughout his writing To begin, Homer's Epics influenced Ancient Greece in a profound way.
The journey of Odysseus began at the end of the Trojan war, when he tried to make it to Penelope in his home, Ithica. But the gods were not happy with Odysseus, due to his arrogant ways and his lack of faith in the gods. Because of this, his journey home would become a 20 year one. He was moved, of course, a number of times by the gods or by weather, He faced many trials and was stopped at many places. Each place he was brought to ended up being another trial.
