When Johnson became president, he was going to take over what Kennedy left behind.His main goal was to win the war and not let North Vietnam make South Vietnam a communist country. His Strategy was to attack North Vietnam with a full-fledged attack. You might think Nixon had a tougher time in off but in reality, Johnson had to do things that made it a little easier when Nixon took over. Johnson strategy was set to win the war because no President has lost a war to that point. Not only did he have all the pressure of the people in the United States, he had pressure from congress and the military people in charge. So Johnson settles with ground troops and thought if they could increase the number of troops send to Vietnam, that would cause Vietnam not to outlast the United States. Johnson major drawbacks were that Vietnam leader was not going to give up so easy and that Hanoi was going to take all the bombs and kills that the United States was going to do to them. Knowing that Johnson has caused an even bigger problem with all the casualties that happen. He did not want to run another term, he wanted to step down and be with his family.
