Another famous ruler who demonstrated absolute power was King Louis XIV of France. At the age of twenty-three, Louis showed that he was determined to someday be the sole ruler of France. Louis proved ht he had what it took to be a strong ruler and this brought him closer to absolute power (Spielvogel 1). Using his absolute power he eventually had, Louis was able to do positive things for France. Louis would put in place massive construction project such as aqueducts and the Palace of Versailles. These projects not only improved their city, but it also gave people jobs to do. Louis also put in place many programs to improve quality of life in France. First, Shi Huangdi had the power to do just about kind of punishment to his people. He could either kill them, or he could send them on one of his ambitious building projects such as the Great Wall of China. Also, Shi Huangdi had so much power that no one would even dare to question his actions. If his actions were questions, Shi Huangdi would have punished the person questioning him. Finally, Shi Huangdi felt he had so much power that he should be protected for the afterlife. To do this he had the Terracotta army built. The terracotta is thousands of soldiers hand molded from clay. These soldiers were too be buried with Shi Huangdi to “protect” him for the afterlife.
