There are many reasons why Romeo and Juliet killed themselves, Two factors caused Romeo Juliet’s death were Friar Lawrence and the family feud that was going on between the Capulets and the Montagues. Both had impacted Juliet and Romeo into thinking that killing themselves was the only way to get out of their problems and the secrets that had been made. Friar Lawrence made many mistakes in trying to keep Romeo and Juliet's marriage a secret and by getting Juliet out of marriage to Paris. He created a chain of secrets starting with him saying in Act 2 scene 3 “In one respect I'll thy assistant be; For this alliance may so happy prove, To turn your households' rancour to pure love.” By doing that, the Friar made many challenges for himself …show more content…

Since Juliet did not want to marry Paris because she was already married to Romeo by the Friar, Juliet had to find a way to get herself out of the marriage. Juliet called upon the Friar for help again, and he gave her a sleeping potion which made her sleep for 48 hours, making everyone believe she was dead to get out of her soon to be marriage with Paris. In the end Romeo was supposed to get a letter from Friar Lawrence, that he never received, to tell Romeo about Juliet’s plan to fake her death so she could run away with Romeo. Since Romeo didn’t receive the letter about Friar’s plan, Romeo heard about Juliet’s death from a friend and immediately decided to go see her and eventually kill himself. First of all, The Fued made it very hard for Romeo or Juliet to be accepted into either of their families if they wanted to get married because of this feud. They knew that their families would be upset if they found out which made them need to keep it a secret. On account of keeping their marriage and love a secret, when Juliet’s parents arranged for her to get married, Juliet had to find a way out of it and asked Friar Lawrence for help. That's when he gave her the sleeping potion making it seem like she was dead, so she wouldn’ have to marry Paris. It was a very good plan until Romeo actually thought that Juliet had died and killed himself. Juliet realized she couldn’t live without Romeo and thought she would kill herself as well, in order to be with Romeo, and get away from the pain and challenges she was facing. In Act 4 scene 1 line 80- 83, Juliet says “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, From off the battlements of yonder tower; Or walk in thievish ways; or bid me lurk, Where serpents are; chain me with roaring bears;”.
